Happy Birthday To You!

Thanks everyone, i’ve had a great day.

16, how great. Legal age for smoking.

Really ain’t a good thing, take it from a smoker. I think it ought to be boosted up to 18, but that really isn’t going to stop anyone.

Hope you had a good day!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, EMAKERA!

Para o meu " irm?o " Emakera um FELIZ ANIVERS?RIO

Thanks everyone.

Actually, 16 is not quite important. You can’t drive, smoke, drink (although smoking is just plain stupid and I’m not an alcohol fellow), but you can vote, get a legal job, take your CPF – Physical Person’s Register, which allows you to have bank accounts among other things. I have a promised job on the local newspaper (once they move to a new office) as… hum… estagi?rio (someone who gets a small pay to make various things-- great for getting experience and filling your curriculum vitae), and I have to try to get some documents. I lost my RG (geral registry, and id card), but since I have no fingerprints on the right hand, I’ll most likely have a hard time making another one. I’ll try to get a Voter’s Title and a CPF.

I hate time.

Tens raz?o" irm?o " , nessa idade , o mais importante , ? saber aproveitar todo de bom que os teus familiares e amigos podem dar . Tens tempo para te preocupares .

You have reason brother, in this age, the most important, is to know

to use to advantage all of good that your familiar and friends can

give. You have time to be worried.

Actually, 16 is not quite important.

I know the feeling (although I passed that age two years ago and for some reason find the age 19 quite daunting - I’m not there yet but I will be in January).

You can do so many things at 16, yet aren’t considered old enough to vote - you’ll pay adult prices for most things (buses, for example) yet can’t decide who runs the country. What age is someone really “responsible” enough to vote? I imagine there are many adults who act younger than many teenagers, but that really does lead one on to thin ice, going down that route.

In this country you can smoke at 16, although it probably should be raised to 18, in my opinion.

Well, I think that young people voting is not always a good thing, since some people are too sheepish; family, propaganda carefully targeted, and the like. Ask Mr. Alberto “The Mad Turk” Hiar, re-re-re-re-re-re-elected, who ran for the state congress with a plataform “aimed” at the youth, with propaganda spread all over lan-houses and cybercaf?s, nightclubs, and the like. That’s not that bad, if he only had propositions and/or a history of work in his previous terms. The only thing he could brag about is that he prohibited nightclubs from setting a minimal consumption value, and being a party-rice in various events. But he won, acclamated by lots of people in here. And there are always the cases of “I voted x because dad votes x”… and the ever-present misinformation. I once heard a girl in my classroom, of high-middle class, bragging that she would vote Alckmin (Geraldo Alckmin, candidate from the Brazilian Party of Social-democracy) , “because Lula buys votes with his Bolsa-Esmola (“Spare change fund” a pun on Bolsa Escola, a government fund that gave a certain amount of cash to poor families with all of their children on school)”. How’s that?

Although politicians didn’t make their best to show their plans… I’ll have to say that only Lula, Cristovam Buarque, Heloisa Helena (who I would have voted), and minor candidates actually bothered to tell what they were going to do.

Thank you, everyone. Ah, to be two decades old. Birthdays always make me feel nostalgic. I got HBO’s Rome, some shirts, and an MP3 player this year. Pretty good, if you ask me.
